A Unique Social Experience
As I opened Cursor Camp, a wave of laughter came out of me, reminiscent of the clumsy barks of a circus seal. This moment was triggered by a simple action I've performed countless times before—wiggling my mouse cursor back and forth in sync with a song I was listening to. What made this moment special was that someone else on screen had followed my lead. According to the flag next to their cursor, they were in India. We might never meet or speak again, but this fleeting interaction brought a small joy that transcended thousands of miles.
This kind of experience reminds me of games like Journey and Club Penguin, which evoke a sense of connection and nostalgia. Cursor Camp, created by Neal Agarwal, the developer behind games such as Infinite Craft and The Password Game, brings a similar charm. While it may not be as surprising or ambitious as Infinite Craft, it offers an experience that is hard to find these days.
A Browser-Based Social MMO
From my perspective, Cursor Camp resembles a browser-based social MMO like Club Penguin or Habbo Hotel, but without the text chat features and fewer traditional 'game-y' elements. Instead, players interact through shared moments—explore the camp by waving your mouse around, pick up a stick of marshmallows to roast smores, watch movies like 12 Angry Men on a projector screen, listen to music from a DJ setup, and more. There's even a soccer field (or football pitch) where you can kick a ball around and quaff orange slices to move faster.
The game isn't massive, but it is quite packed right now, with hats to collect and badges to unlock by meeting certain criteria. I don't want to spoil too much since half the fun lies in making little discoveries, so I recommend checking it out for yourself. It's breezy, charming, and distracting enough that I had trouble finishing this article. Sounds like a successful browser game to me.
