Elon Musk's XAI Future Unveiled: From Aliens to XMoney

Elon Musk's xAI Town Hall Reveals Major Changes and Future Plans

Elon Musk recently hosted a company-wide town hall meeting for his artificial intelligence venture, xAI, just days after completing its merger with SpaceX. The event, which lasted 45 minutes, was broadcast publicly, allowing anyone to watch the discussion unfold.

Company Restructuring

One of the key topics discussed during the meeting was the restructuring of xAI. Earlier in the week, two of the company's co-founders, Tony Wu and Jimmy Ba, announced their departures. Wu shared on X/Twitter that it was "time for my next chapter," while Ba expressed gratitude to Musk for bringing them together on an "incredible journey."

When xAI first launched, it had 12 members. That number has since been reduced to six. Musk explained that the company is now reorganizing to be more effective at this scale. He noted that some individuals are better suited for the early stages of a company, while others may not be as well-suited for later stages.

X/Twitter Updates

The meeting also covered updates related to X (formerly Twitter). It was reported that the platform has reached one billion users and generates an additional $1 billion annually from X Premium subscriptions. Nikita Bier, X’s product chief, highlighted that users are spending 55% more time on the app than they did six months ago.

There are currently no plans to introduce ads into Grok, the AI assistant developed by xAI. This follows recent news that OpenAI has started rolling out ads on ChatGPT.

Standalone Chat App

Musk outlined plans to launch a new standalone chat app called XChat, which would allow users to message without needing to access the X app. Another financial app, XMoney, is also in the works. Musk mentioned that XMoney has already been tested in a closed beta within the company and is expected to move to a limited external beta in the next month or two before being rolled out globally.

He described XMoney as a "game changer" that will serve as the central hub for all monetary transactions.

Aliens and Sci-Fi Predictions

During the meeting, Musk shared ambitious visions for the future of the merged xAI and SpaceX company. His plans included AI-powered satellite manufacturing hubs on the Moon and a futuristic mechanism to send those satellites into deep space. Under his vision, the unified company aims to establish a sustained presence on the Moon and eventually expand to Mars, a goal he estimates will take about 20 years.

Musk also speculated about the possibility of encountering aliens. "Maybe we’ll meet aliens. Maybe we’ll see some civilisations that lasted for millions of years," he said. "And we’ll find the remnants of ancient alien civilisations. But the only way we’re gonna do that is if we go out there and we explore. And this is a path to making it happen."
