KDC Empowers Youth Innovation at Africa Forward Summit 2026

Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) to Participate in Africa Forward Summit 2026

Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) is set to play a significant role in the upcoming Africa Forward Summit 2026, which will take place in Nairobi on May 11–12. The event, organized jointly by the governments of Kenya and France, aims to bring together development partners, investors, donors, and diplomatic stakeholders to mobilize financing and technical partnerships that support youth innovation and socio-economic transformation across Africa.

As a key player in Kenya’s development landscape, KDC has reaffirmed its commitment to financing innovation, youth-led enterprises, and the creative economy. This participation highlights the corporation’s expanding role as a catalytic Development Finance Institution (DFI), supporting innovation-driven sectors such as the digital economy, healthcare manufacturing, emerging technologies, and creative industries.

A Focus on Innovation and Economic Growth

Speaking ahead of the summit, KDC Director General Norah Ratemo emphasized the growing importance of innovation and creativity in driving economic growth and job creation. “Innovation and creativity are no longer peripheral sectors; they are central to economic transformation, job creation, and global competitiveness,” she said.

Ratemo added that KDC is actively working to unlock affordable and inclusive financing for creatives, innovators, and digital entrepreneurs, enabling them to scale their ideas into sustainable enterprises. The corporation is also leveraging strategic partnerships and catalytic capital to strengthen Kenya’s innovation ecosystem and position the country as a regional hub for enterprise growth.

Strategic Collaborations and Long-Term Support

KDC continues to provide long-term financing and advisory support to businesses looking to scale sustainably and expand into regional and global markets. Having already signed the Public Development Banks Joint Declaration, the corporation remains committed to collaborative financing models that enhance economic resilience and sustainable development in Africa.

Additionally, KDC will serve as an Innovation Partner for the Nova Garage Launch, a platform designed to identify and support high-potential entrepreneurs in the digital and creative economy. The initiative is being co-convened by the French-African Foundation and Kenya’s State Department for Foreign Affairs through the Autonomous Advancement Initiative.

According to KDC, the platform aims to unlock technical collaboration and catalytic financing for youth-led enterprises while driving broader socio-economic transformation. The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for young entrepreneurs and contribute to the growth of Kenya’s innovation sector.

Supporting Creative Industries

KDC also highlighted the importance of continued support for sectors such as film, music, media arts, literature, design, and digital content creation. These industries are becoming increasingly vital for job creation and cultural development in Kenya and across the continent.

By investing in these sectors, KDC is helping to foster a vibrant and diverse creative economy that can contribute significantly to Kenya’s socio-economic growth. The corporation’s efforts align with global trends that recognize the transformative power of creativity and innovation in shaping the future of economies.

Conclusion

With its active participation in the Africa Forward Summit 2026, KDC is reinforcing its role as a key player in Kenya’s development strategy. Through strategic partnerships, innovative financing models, and a focus on youth-led enterprises, the corporation is paving the way for a more inclusive and dynamic economic future for Kenya and the broader African region.
