Tax Reforms Boost Demand for Professional Services – Taxaide

Nigeria’s Tax Landscape Transforms, Creating Opportunities for Professional Services

Nigeria is undergoing a significant transformation in its tax compliance processes. The shift from manual and fragmented systems to digital platforms has been accelerated by key developments such as the 2025 Tax Acts, e-invoicing, and the newly introduced REV360 platform. This evolution has created a growing demand for professional tax services and technology-driven compliance solutions, according to Taxaide Professional Services Limited.

The firm recently celebrated its 12th anniversary in Lagos on June 11, marking a milestone in its journey of supporting businesses through these changes. At the event, Bidemi Olumide, the Chief Executive Officer of Taxaide, highlighted the substantial transformations that have occurred in Nigeria’s tax landscape over the past decade.

Major Shifts in the Tax Industry

According to Olumide, there have been three major shifts that have reshaped the industry:

  1. Digitisation: Nigeria has moved from manual, fragmented compliance to digital platforms. This includes the implementation of the 2025 Tax Acts, e-invoicing, and the introduction of the REV360 platform.
  2. Professionalisation: New tax laws now restrict taxpayer representation to accredited professionals only. This has raised the bar for certification and required multidisciplinary expertise.
  3. Growing Demand for Advisory Services: There is an increasing need for advisory around tax, digital economy, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and cross-border compliance.

Olumide emphasized that Taxaide has positioned itself to benefit from these changes by investing in tax technology and digital infrastructure. The company has been building quietly for 12 years, automating processes and securing data. It combines indigenous tax management with technology via Taxtech, and it is NRS-licensed as an accredited e-invoicing service provider and Access Point Provider for the National e-Invoicing programme.

Future of Tax Advisory

Looking ahead, Olumide outlined three key areas of growth for the future of tax advisory:

  1. Technology-Led Compliance: Nigeria’s tax system has improved significantly through digital self-service platforms like REV360. The use of AI to aid proactive and predictive tax arrangements is also becoming more prominent.
  2. Advisory for a New Fiscal Era: With the 2025 Tax Acts and their far-reaching reforms led by digitisation, tax professionals must be of the new breed that Taxaide is nurturing. More specialisation is required, with improved service delivery as the objective.
  3. Africa-First Data Security: Taxaide is positioning Taxtech and the Africa Data Security Conclave as the homegrown platform for Africa’s digital security challenges.

Consistency as a Key Achievement

Olumide described the company’s consistency over the past 12 years as its biggest achievement. “Our consistency is our brightest highlight. Twelve years of building an indigenous fiscal services brand is not a feat we will take for granted,” he said. The company has spent the last few weeks reflecting on its 12-year journey and charting the course for the next 10 years.

Expanding Services to Help Taxpayers

Nneka Nkwocha, the Business Development and Finance Manager at Taxaide, highlighted the need for a dedicated service to help taxpayers access benefits they may be entitled to. She noted that many Nigerians and businesses are not taking advantage of available tax and fiscal incentives.

“We are going to be the one to be in that space,” Nkwocha said. The service, expected to launch in the coming months, will help individuals and companies recover or access benefits linked to previous tax payments and statutory contributions.

She also mentioned that the implementation of recent tax reforms has increased demand for professional tax guidance as businesses seek to understand and comply with new regulations. “We have had more engagements because people do not want to fall prey,” she said.

Supporting Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises

Nkwocha emphasized that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) constitute a major segment of the company’s client base and remain central to its growth strategy. “We do not want them to add financial challenges in the area of tax to their existing social, economic and political challenges,” she said.

Trust has remained a critical factor in retaining clients. “Having a partner like Taxaide that you can confide in and give instructions to, while you go to bed with your two eyes closed, is something that has kept us at the peak and in the minds of our clients,” she added.

Navigating Compliance and Audits

Oladipupo Abdullah, Taxaide’s Tax Audit Associate, explained that businesses are increasingly seeking professional support to navigate compliance obligations, tax audits, and evolving regulations. “We help our clients bridge the gap between themselves and the tax authority,” he said.

The firm provides integrated services covering tax compliance, audit assurance, and accounting support to ensure clients meet filing obligations and avoid penalties. “Once you fail to file your taxes at the right time, there are penalties and interest that will be charged against you,” Abdullah said.

He also highlighted the importance of the REV360 platform, which represents another major milestone in Nigeria’s tax digitisation journey. “We ensure that our clients are carried along and kept abreast of developments in the tax space,” he said.

Embracing Compliance as a Strategic Advantage

Abdullah urged businesses to embrace compliance and professional guidance rather than view taxation as a burden. “If you think that staying compliant is difficult, then try non-compliance,” he said. He added that maintaining proper records and working with professional advisers helps businesses reduce tax risks and navigate audits more effectively.
