Exclusive photos reveal £600,000 revamp of Peterborough's Old Station Quarter
A New Hub for Work and Leisure in Peterborough
New images have provided an early glimpse into a £600,000 workspace and fun hub that is set to open in an historic part of Peterborough next month. The development, known as the Old Station Quarter, is located in Unex House, which sits alongside the East Coast Main Line. The area includes Viersen Platz and Bourges Boulevard, and the pictures show sections of the space that are gradually taking shape.
One of the images reveals a spacious bar area with plenty of seating, while another shows the area designated for a boxing club. These visuals give a sense of the vibrant atmosphere that the Old Station Quarter aims to create.
The project is now confirmed to open on May 23, with membership applications going live online on Friday, May 1. All the funding for this venture has come from private sources, and it is the brainchild of a group of six local entrepreneurs. The initiative will initially employ 40 people.
Laura Green, one of the six directors, shared her thoughts on the project: “We had hoped to open in April, but it has taken a bit longer to sort out than we first imagined. We are looking forward to the opening; it has been a lot of hard work and quite stressful as we have carried out a full renovation and moved in five businesses.”
The Old Station Quarter is designed to be a social and working venue across 8,000 square feet of former office space. It will feature a large area of independent working space as well as hosting a variety of social activities and events. The hub will be home to three existing businesses: the tattoo workshop Electric Workshop, currently based in Westgate, the boxing club Gentlemen and Rogues of Yaxley, and a Been Around Coffee outlet. Additionally, Tola Macaulay’s TMacLife physiotherapy hub will also be part of the space.
The development will also include a bar, a café, a state-of-the-art fitness facility, and a street food venue. This mix of services is intended to cater to a wide range of interests and needs.
A social media post for the Old Station Quarter states: “Old Station Quarter will redefine how the city connects, works, trains and unwinds. It will be an inspiring destination where you can train, connect, work, eat and enjoy – all in one iconic location.”
Unex House, the building that houses the Old Station Quarter, was created through the conversion of former railway engine sheds dating back to the 19th century. Many of the original features of the building have been retained and exposed, preserving its historical character while providing a modern and functional space for the community.
