Cultist Suspect Killed in Lagos After YABATECH Shooting

Rising Tensions in Lagos: Cult-Related Violence Escalates

Lagos State has witnessed a troubling surge in violence linked to cult activities, with several incidents reported in recent days. A suspected cultist, known only as Obasanjo, was killed early on Wednesday in the Egbeda area of Lagos. This incident has raised concerns about the escalating conflict between rival cult groups in the region.

The killing occurred less than a week after a student from Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) was shot by suspected cult members. Another cultist, identified as Kalou, was also killed in the Isolo area of the state. These events highlight the growing instability and the increasing frequency of violent confrontations involving these groups.

According to reports, Obasanjo was killed just a few days after being released from a correctional center. He was reportedly walking near the Lion of Judah area close to Okunola bus stop when he was attacked by members of the Aiye Confraternity. It is alleged that Obasanjo was a member of the Eiye Confraternity and was under the influence of hard drugs at the time of the attack.

Recent Attacks and Reprisals

On Monday, a man identified as Elubu was shot around Yaba College of Technology by suspected Aiye cult members. Initially feared dead, Elubu survived after being rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds to his head. Members of the Eiye cult group, who were on a reprisal mission, invaded the school campus when they spotted the injured student. The attackers chased him before catching up with him at a tricycle park, where one of them shot him at close range.

Also on Monday, a suspected cult member, simply referred to as Kalou, was shot around Isolo Market in the Isolo area of Lagos. The attack was said to be a reprisal for the killing of a group member named Adeola, who was allegedly killed by suspected Eiye members.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigations

The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, ASP Femi Adeoye, confirmed the Egbeda incident and stated that investigations have been initiated into the killing. He added that “some suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.”

These developments underscore the urgent need for increased security measures and community engagement to address the root causes of cult-related violence. The police are working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attacks, while also seeking to prevent further bloodshed.
