Dan Lăzărescu Leads Bosch Engineering Center in Cluj

Strategic Leadership Transition at Bosch Romania

Bosch has appointed Dan Lăzărescu as the director of its Engineering Center in Cluj, effective January 2026. In addition to this new role, Lăzărescu will continue to serve as the group’s representative in Romania. This appointment is part of a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing collaboration and synergies among Bosch’s various divisions in the country.

Lăzărescu, who has been the general manager of Robert Bosch S.R.L. since October 2025, will take over from Tobias Matter, who is moving to a new position within the Bosch Group after four years leading the Cluj center. The transition highlights Bosch’s commitment to maintaining strong leadership and innovation in its Romanian operations.

A Vision for Innovation and Growth

In his new role, Lăzărescu emphasized his focus on strengthening Romania’s position within Bosch’s global innovation ecosystem. Despite the challenges faced by the automotive industry, he plans to concentrate on key factors that drive organizational success, such as improving competitiveness, fostering innovation, and accelerating digitalization.

Lăzărescu has a strong academic background, having graduated from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest and earning a PhD in digital signal processing for automotive applications. He began his career at Bosch in 2001 in Stuttgart, where he held several significant leadership roles. Over the years, he has worked in Stuttgart, Budapest, and Cluj-Napoca, contributing to the development of automotive control units and coordinating hardware divisions and driver assistance solutions for the global market.

Currently, Lăzărescu is recognized as a leading professional in Romania’s automotive industry. He has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK) since June 2025, further demonstrating his commitment to promoting business relations between Romania and Germany.

The Cluj Engineering Center: A Hub of Innovation

The Cluj Engineering Center, which employs more than 1,500 people, is a key player in developing data-driven and artificial intelligence-based solutions for automated, electric, and connected mobility. The center generates over 100 inventions annually and collaborates closely with other Bosch engineering locations and production facilities in Romania.

Established in 2013, the center has become a crucial component of Bosch’s global mobility transformation strategy. It specializes in software, hardware, mechanical engineering, and project management. Under Tobias Matter’s leadership, the center experienced significant growth, including the inauguration of a second office building in 2024.

Bosch’s Long-Term Presence in Romania

Bosch has been operating in Romania for over 30 years and currently employs around 10,000 people across seven entities. In 2024, the company reported consolidated sales of EUR 529.5 million in the Romanian market. Including internal deliveries, total net sales reached EUR 2.4 billion.

This continued investment in Romania underscores Bosch’s confidence in the country’s potential and its commitment to driving technological advancement and economic growth. With Lăzărescu at the helm, the company is well-positioned to navigate the evolving automotive landscape and maintain its leadership in innovation.
