Doosan Transforms with AI and Energy Focus

Doosan Group's Strategic Shift Toward AI Infrastructure
Park Jeong-won, the chairman of Doosan Group, recently made a series of visits to various business sites across the country. His goal was to push forward the company’s transition toward an AI infrastructure-centered structure. This shift marks a significant change from the group’s traditional focus on heavy industries. Instead, Doosan is now prioritizing energy infrastructure and advanced materials—both of which are crucial for AI development. The company is also actively pursuing the acquisition of SK Siltron, a leading global manufacturer of semiconductor wafers.
Inspecting Key Facilities for AI Development
On the 12th, Park visited the 'Electronics BG' site, a subsidiary of Doosan Co., Ltd. in Jeungpyeong, North Chungcheong Province. During this visit, he inspected the manufacturing process of CCL (Copper Clad Laminate), a key material used in AI accelerators. CCL serves as the base material for PCBs (printed circuit boards), which function as neural networks in electronic devices. Doosan’s high-performance CCL is especially vital for AI accelerators that need to handle massive data at ultra-high speeds. It offers minimal signal loss and resistance to deformation even under high-temperature conditions. The company has already secured orders from major global tech firms, with its factory operating at over 100% capacity.
Emphasizing AI Opportunities in Energy
On the 11th, during a visit to Doosan Enerbility’s facility in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, Park highlighted the potential of AI in the energy sector. After inspecting the power generation gas turbine factory and the small modular reactor (SMR) component production line, he stated, “The AI transition era has opened significant opportunities in the energy sector. Let us leverage our accumulated capabilities to seize this moment.” With the increasing demand for power to support data centers—essential for AI development—Doosan’s strengths in stable power supply solutions, including gas turbines and nuclear power facilities, have become increasingly strategic.
Expanding into International Markets
Doosan Enerbility, which localized large-scale power generation gas turbines in 2019, recently signed a contract with Elon Musk’s AI company xAI to supply five large gas turbines. This agreement is accelerating the company’s expansion into overseas markets. Additionally, the Changwon site is currently constructing the world’s first SMR-dedicated factory, with plans for completion by 2028.
Visiting Doosan Bobcat’s Incheon Site
Earlier, on the 2nd, Park visited Doosan Bobcat’s Incheon site to inspect production lines for electric and hydrogen equipment, forklifts, and the R&D center. This visit underscored the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainable technologies, further supporting its broader AI infrastructure strategy.
