Musk's xAI Calls Grok Update 'Non-Woke' Platform: 'No Equivocation'
Introduction to Grok 4.20
X’s artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok, has launched its first beta version of Grok 4.20. This update is being promoted by Elon Musk and X as not only offering improved performance and new features but also as the platform with the least "politically correct" stance, free from liberal bias.
Over the past week, users on X, including Musk himself, have been highlighting search results from Grok that provide what they describe as "non-woke" answers to questions about popular cultural issues and figures. These results are being compared to those from other AI platforms like Anthropic’s Claude, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Google’s Gemini.
Musk shared a post on X last week stating, “Grok 4.20 is BASED.” He emphasized that it is the only AI that doesn’t hesitate when asked if America is on stolen land. According to Musk, the other platforms are "weak sauce."
The post included screenshots showing ChatGPT giving a "yes" answer, Claude ultimately saying "yes," and Gemini describing the answer as "complex." In contrast, Grok responded with "No."
Comparing Responses on Political Issues
In another post shared by Musk, the AI platforms were asked for a "yes" or "no" response to whether President Donald Trump is "racist." Grok answered "No," while Gemini stated the answer was not as simple as "yes" or "no." Claude and ChatGPT also declined to give a direct "yes" or "no" response, arguing that the issue is more nuanced.
"Grok 4.20 is the only non-woke AI in existence, engineered to pursue maximum truth, and deliver unfiltered, evidence-based answers where every other major model has been lobotomized by the woke mind virus," an xAI spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
Real-World Examples and Public Reactions
The recent attack on Iran by the United States and Israel provided examples on social media of Grok results appearing less "biased" than other platforms. A post showed what happened when each platform was asked a "yes" or "no" question about whether Trump was "right" to authorize the strike. Grok responded with "yes," while ChatGPT said "no." Both Gemini and Claude argued that the situation was too complex to respond definitively.
"In times of split second decision making by our nation’s top leaders — it’s clear which AI our military should be using," said Katie Miller, host of ‘The Katie Miller Show’ and former DOGE adviser. "Truth-seeking is @grok’s best feature."
Assessing Political Leanings of AI Platforms
Various websites have attempted to track the political leanings of artificial intelligence platforms. Dartmouth College's Polarization Research Lab, last updated in 2025, ranked Gemini as the least political. In early 2025, a Manhattan Institute report concluded that Grok was a close second to Gemini in terms of political bias.
An OpenAI spokesperson directed Fox News Digital to its public ModelSpec, which defines how ChatGPT should behave and "assume an objective point of view." They added that "we actively test and measure political bias in ways that mirror real-world use and publish our findings, including evaluations across hundreds of prompts and real production traffic, where detectable political bias is rare (fewer than 0.01% of responses show any detectable political bias) and continues to decline with newer models."
Fox News Digital reached out to Anthropic and Google for comment.
