Singapore Airlines to Launch Starlink Internet on Select Flights in 2027

Singapore Airlines to Introduce Starlink-Powered WiFi for All Passengers
Singapore Airlines, a global leader in air travel and consistently ranked among the world’s best airlines, has announced an exciting new development. The airline will be introducing Starlink-powered WiFi services starting next year. This initiative is set to revolutionize the in-flight internet experience for passengers.
The service will be available for free to all customers, including those in economy class, as long as they are members of the KrisFlyer loyalty program. Joining KrisFlyer is completely free, making this offer accessible to a wide range of travelers. The rollout of Starlink-powered WiFi is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027. It will initially be introduced on Singapore Airlines’ Airbus A350-900 long-haul, A350-900 ultra-long-range, and A380 aircraft. By the end of 2029, the entire fleet is expected to be fully connected.
Currently, Singapore Airlines already provides complimentary WiFi to all passengers. However, the integration of Starlink is anticipated to significantly enhance connectivity, offering faster speeds that support activities such as video streaming and online gaming.
Yeoh Phee Teik, Senior Vice President of Customer Experience at Singapore Airlines, emphasized the importance of fast and seamless connectivity in today’s travel experience. He stated, “Fast, seamless connectivity is, today, an essential part of the travel experience.” He also highlighted that Singapore Airlines already offers the world’s most comprehensive complimentary in-flight WiFi across its entire fleet. With Starlink, the airline aims to elevate this experience further by delivering next-generation high-speed connectivity. This will enable passengers to stay entertained, connected, and productive throughout their journey, ensuring a smoother and more seamless experience from take-off to landing.
Starlink, a subsidiary of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, operates over 10,000 satellites in low Earth orbit. These satellites provide reliable internet connectivity to passengers while they are onboard flights.
Airlines Adopting Starlink Technology
Several airlines have started announcing partnerships with Starlink since 2024. Among the early adopters are Hawaiian Airlines and Qatar Airways. In Europe, several carriers have begun rolling out Starlink services. These include airBaltic, Aer Lingus, Air France, British Airways, Iberia, LEVEL, SAS, Virgin Atlantic, and Vueling.
The Lufthansa Group, which includes the German flag carrier along with Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Eurowings, ITA Airways, and Swiss International Air Lines, will start its rollout later this year.
Notably, British Airways has made headlines by announcing that it will allow phone calls using Starlink on board. This move highlights the growing adoption of Starlink technology in the aviation industry and its potential to transform the in-flight experience for passengers worldwide.
