Mark Robins Warns of 'Ruthless' Stoke City Summer in Stark Message to Players

A Bold Vision for Stoke City's Future
Mark Robins has made it clear that the upcoming summer transfer window will be a time of significant change for Stoke City. He has warned of a ruthless approach to remove any players who do not fully commit to the club and to bring in individuals who will represent the badge with pride.
After a 3-1 defeat to Portsmouth, which saw Stoke finish their home season in the bottom half of the Championship, Robins was unambiguous about the need for transformation. For months, it has been evident that a major overhaul is coming, and he is ready to make tough decisions.
"I'm up for that discussion," Robins stated, emphasizing his determination to push forward at Stoke City. The manager's comments came after a difficult match where players were criticized for their performance.
Building a Stronger Team
Robins emphasized the importance of making the right choices in both player recruitment and departures. He spoke about the need to move on players who are not committed to the team's goals and to build a squad that everyone can be proud of.
"We have to recruit the right players and we have to move on people who are mercenary, don't want to work, don't want to train hard. Then we have to put a team on the pitch that everyone can be proud of and really get behind. That's the aim."
Despite the challenges, Robins remained focused on the future. He did not elaborate on specific players leaving, stating that the interview was difficult and that he wanted to maintain his dignity while moving forward with the necessary work.
Culture Change and Responsibility
Behind closed doors, Robins is confident about his vision for the team. He highlighted the need for a cultural shift, where players take responsibility and lead by example.
"You've also got a situation when you've got to tickle their bellies a little bit and try to get on with it. We need more players who are willing to take responsibility and drag people with them. The culture needs to change. There are things that are just not right."
Robins pointed out that the issues became apparent during the season, even though things started off well. "At the start of the season, everything was fine and we were ticking along quite nicely - but there were still signs there. We had a bit of a way to go. Then it's obviously come home to roost."
Moving Forward
The manager acknowledged the difficulty of the current situation but stressed the importance of taking decisive action. "It's difficult. I don't want to sit here and talk about how difficult things are. It is at the moment and has been for a while and you can see that by my face but we need to get on and do some work and be ruthless, whatever that takes. Everybody is up for that."
