Violet Affleck's Bold Hair Makeover at LA Family Gathering
Violet Affleck made a striking appearance during a family outing in Los Angeles alongside her mother, Jennifer Garner, and her younger brother, Samuel. The trio spent a day together, taking a break to enjoy some ice cream while Violet was back in her hometown.
The 20-year-old recently finished her second year at Yale University in Connecticut and returned with a fresh new look—this time sporting a short bob instead of her usual long brunette hair. Violet, who closely resembles her famous mother, looked effortlessly stylish in two-toned blue jeans, a Chappell Roan tee, a fluffy pink cross-body bag, and black sneakers.
Jennifer, on the other hand, kept it casual yet chic in black leggings, a red flannel shirt, and white sneakers. Samuel, meanwhile, opted for green sweats, a white T-shirt, and white sneakers, completing the family's laid-back ensemble.
Violet’s new hairstyle was the highlight of the day, especially after she removed her mask, which she typically wears for protection due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. She has been a vocal supporter of mask mandates and shared her personal experience with the virus in a 2024 speech to the Los Angeles County Board of Directors.
“I’m okay now, but I saw firsthand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses,” she said. “The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown that into sharper relief.”
In addition to her advocacy for public health, Violet is also passionate about environmental issues. In a May 2025 research paper published in Yale's Global Health Review, she discussed her disagreements with Jennifer following the Southern Californian wildfires in January 2025.
In her essay titled A Chronically Ill Earth: COVID Organizing as a Model Climate Response in Los Angeles, Violet wrote about the experience of being in a hotel room during the fires and arguing with her mother.
“She was shell-shocked, astonished at the scale of destruction in the neighborhood where she raised myself and my siblings,” she wrote. “I was surprised at her surprise: as a lifelong Angelena and climate-literate member of Generation Z, my question had not been whether the Palisades would burn but when.”
She also mentioned her younger brother, Samuel, who was confused about the link between climate change and the devastating fires. “Hopefully, most of us understand the climate crisis better than my little brother,” Violet wrote.
Jennifer shares Violet, Samuel, and their sibling, Fin, with her ex-husband, Ben Affleck. The couple was married from 2005 to 2015 and remained close friends for the sake of their children. However, co-parenting after their divorce was not always easy, as Jennifer explained on the Bustle's One Nightstand podcast.
“When your kids grow up in two separate households, I become mom and dad, and he becomes dad and mom,” she said. “You kind of can't help it, right? Because you don't have the benefit of both sides, the yin and yang being in the same house, so you have to have a bit of both in the way you parent.”
“There's a little bit of loss in that, but there's also something gained in that… You also just learn, it's made me let go and not focus so much on the bringing up.”
