EE Introduces Scam Guard to Combat 169 Million Blocked Scams Since 2024

Introduction to EE’s New Scam Guard

EE has launched an upgraded version of its Scam Guard, a comprehensive fraud protection service designed to offer customers the highest level of security against modern-day scams. This new offering is the most advanced yet, integrating cutting-edge technology and AI-driven features to safeguard users from a wide range of threats.

The service is available for £2 per month on a 30-day rolling contract for EE pay monthly mobile customers. It builds upon EE’s existing Scam Guard by introducing several powerful features that provide peace of mind in an increasingly complex digital environment.

The Growing Threat of Fraud

According to Cifas, the UK's leading fraud prevention service, over 444,000 cases were recorded to the National Fraud Database in 2025—the highest number ever recorded in a single year. This represents a 6% increase compared to 2024. Experts attribute this surge to the growing use of AI by criminal networks to create convincing phishing emails, fake websites, deepfake calls, and targeted SMS scams at an unprecedented scale.

Since its launch, EE’s Scam Guard has already stopped more than 169 million scam and spam attempts, showcasing its effectiveness in protecting customers. The new Scam Guard aims to raise the bar further, not just for EE but for the entire industry.

Key Features of the New Scam Guard

At the core of the new Scam Guard is AI Triple-Lock Protection, a set of three advanced digital safety features powered by Norton's Genie AI engine. These features are designed to protect customers throughout the day:

  • Safe Email: This feature provides 24/7 proactive scam protection for email inboxes, scanning and flagging suspicious messages before they are opened.
  • Safe SMS: Utilizing advanced AI, Safe SMS detects sophisticated scams in text messages, offering real-time protection every time customers check their messages.
  • Safe Web: Harnessing AI, Safe Web protects customers from online scams while shopping or browsing, blocking malicious sites before they cause harm.

In addition to AI Triple-Lock Protection, the new Scam Guard introduces several other tools:

  • Scam Assistant: A tool that allows customers to upload screenshots of texts, emails, websites, social media messages, or even QR codes to receive instant advice on whether they are safe.
  • Call Labelling: Provides automatic, network-level screening of every incoming call, giving customers essential information before they answer.
  • Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring: These features watch for suspicious activity across a customer's online footprint, sending quick notifications so they can take action without delay.
  • Mobile Device Security: Offers real-time protection against ransomware, viruses, and other online threats, automatically blocking dangerous attachments.
  • Password Manager: Creates, stores, and auto-fills strong, secure passwords, reducing one of the most common vulnerabilities in personal online security.

Commitment to Customer Protection

Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile, EE, stated: “Fraud in the UK is at a record high, with AI making scams more convincing and harder to detect. As these threats evolve, we continue to adapt as the UK’s best network—constantly seeking new and innovative ways to protect and support our customers.”

EE is committed to helping customers enjoy the digital world with confidence through practical protections like Scam Guard. This aligns with BT Group’s purpose to connect for good and its broader efforts to help people develop the digital skills, tools, and support needed to stay safe and succeed online.
